Stu Hurz shaping a board in the Austin-Baird shaping room.
SHAPERS:
Bob Austin & Bob Baird - 1963 thru July 1964 - All boards were shaped by either Austin or Baird.
Bob Baird - August 1964 to January 1966 - All boards shaped by Baird.
From February 1966 to the closing of the shop later that year, the other shapers were:
Stu Hurz - Estimated that Stu shape about 80% of the 1966 boards. (See the photo on the right. This is Stu shaping a board in our shaping booth. I took this photo on my first leave from the Army.)
Steve Pezman - estimated about 20% of the 1966 boards.
NOTE: I hired a shop manager in late January, 1966, when I was drafted. His website stated that he shaped his first board at Austin-Baird in 1963, and that is TOTALLY BOGUS. I have asked that he correct his site but he insists he is right. He also insists I was drafted in 1963--like I don't know when I was drafted. Go figure.
PHOTOGRAPHERS:
Bill Perry - Bill was a non-surfing friend of mine who took many of the photographs on this site. He would travel with the Team on various surf trips, shows, and other events. Bill also designed the Austin-Baird Logo.
Jim Driver - Jim was another friend of mine who took photos and he wrote an article about me for the Long Beach City College Student Newspaper titled: "CC Surf-Enthusiast Opens Board Shop".
Other photos were taken by various friends, team members, customers and others.
